Homelabbing Realization - Configs and Git

## Realization I'm back to brainstorming migrations away from Docker Compose to something that solves multi-node networking and secrets but I don't want to go to k8s... so my options are probably Docker Swarm or Nomad. As I wrestle mentally here I was thinking about one of my issues with multi-node setup is that I still keep everything out of one git repo, so if something gets managed remotely then I get out of sync. Best example is dashy, Due to some constraint of wanting to be as close to zero-day deployment-ready as possible, I think I overcomplicate some of the simple stuff - like it's ok to just have to put a file on a server for a container to start the first time... That doesn't mean ansible is a requirement, in fact lately I've just leaned into just recipes. But even then, I cornered myself into tracking my dashy config in git, so I'm hesitant to ever update it in the browser cause I'll have to redownload the config, reconcile the formatting differences in my repo (there's ...

Chili Notes

I could’ve sworn I had a chili list going but alas… 2025-10-04 2 lbs ground beef 1 big can of pinto beans 3 small cans of black beans 3 cans diced tomatoes 2 onions diced This is last minute chili for church pot-luck… poor planning I browned the meat and seasoned similar to how I might for tacos, but lighter on cumin and added chili powder. Dumped the browned meant, tomtoes, and beans into crock pot. Seasoned with a healthy amount of garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, and salt. Browned the onions, and dumped in. Let stew for a few hours. Eat. Review # 1 bowl was great. The yellow onion still seem to add a little bit of heat, maybe could’ve sauteed them longer

Pilgrim’s Creek - About Me

# Hello This is my snippet for [website]() for Pilgrims Creek [1] I need to write a little intro about myself so I'll mind-dump some things here and then organize into a blurb to put on the website --- Nic is a man first and foremost defined by the grace of Jesus Christ, and a grateful husband (13 years and counting) and father of two wonderful daughters. He works in tech as a platform engineer, building tools to support developers and improve their experience. Beyond his professional life, Nic is passionate about exploring technology – especially through his homelab – and how it intersects with homelabbing and privacy conerns intersect. A lifelong student of theology, Nick also finds joy in physical pursuits like volleyball and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (currently a blue belt!). He shares his thoughts on these passions at [pype.dev](https://pype.dev). Here at Pilgrim’s Creek, Nic hopes to foster energizing conversations rooted in the Lordship of Jesus, celebrating His grace and the j...
