!!! note "Psalm 30:5"

Meditation #

Psalm 30:5

For there is a moment in his anger; there is a lifetime in his favor. Weeping lodges for the evening, but in the morning comes rejoicing.

I’m not sure how to feel about the thoughts in my head over this verse and
meditation this morning, only because I am so tempted to read my present-life
situation into it. Lately work has been the worst, I’ve written a few notes
about it and I’m not even sure what I’ve published on my own blog over the last
couple months because my brain has been in such chaos. Well, a few things
changed in regards to leadership, goals, etc. and the anxiety-inducing
situation I was thrust into I was kind of thrust out of. Now, there’s some
lingering work and support but the weight that was lifted from my shoulder the
other day, and the further relief I actually expect to feel as the corporate
roadmaps get serialized into dozens of PowerPoint presentations to be lost in
Outlook mailboxes, is very timely with the notion that “joy comes in the morning”.

I found myself wishing for joy the other day… I was watching a YouTube video
and the clip used the phrase “operationalize joy”. It was a guy talking about
how he tries to live each day doing what makes him happy - overall nothing too
sinister. However, the step I took for a few minutes in my head was a step in
the direction of trying to maximize joy in my life, rather than trying to
maximize Jesus - the one who gives the joy. By God’s grace conviction seized my
heart, and frankly I’m still not sure what to do day-to-day as I wrestle with
my own “stuff” but the objective truth that our reality is fundamentally held
together by is simply Jesus Christ. Jesus loves me, joy does come in the
morning, and this Psalm wasn’t written to me about my work situation in 2026,
but God’s peace is given to his people through his everlasting word. Praise the
Lord for the Word this morning, for encouragement, for relief both
temporary/today and eternal/tomorrow. By God’s grace alone does weeping spend
the night, but his gracious joy comes with the morning.
